Typical Day

This time of year carries a feeling of 'in between' for us. The Yule rush is over and the spring awakening is down the road. Powwows and festivals are to far away to seem real yet. I was up early. I like to catch the early morning local news. This morning was so sad...all those miners gone. I find it odd that the families are so angry about the mis-communication. Why aren't they angry about the safety infractions that probably led to the tragedy? This night there are so many people weeping, struggling to understand this horrific loss.

We're going through our home, our office, our inventory in order to lighten our load. Mud Puppy is so much better at this than I. I am so sentimental, I find it hard to part with anything my children gave. I have boxes of pictures, pressed flowers...name it, I've saved it. Today I was able to part with linens passed down from our aunt. These aren't pretty linens. These are loud, cheap sheets that came from what used to be called a mill outlet. These were donated.
Around 9 AM, Alberto came over. Alberto works with us. He helped us with Mud Puppys rabbits, repaired our file cabinet and then we all went down to our stock room. We counted, organized and stacked.
We have most of our stock counted and ready for purchase. It feels good.
Mud Puppy is so very good at utilizing space. She's also a terrific supervisor. Today, I watched her while she worked. She's efficient, easy to work with, yet in charge. She & Alberto discussed female Latin heroes. Mud Puppy decided to make a shirt honoring these women.
After we dropped Alberto off, we stopped by the market. Mud Puppy bought dried blueberries and figured out our menue for the next three days. She figured ounces, helping...the whole thing...in her head. Remarkable.
As we settle down this evening, she's going through pictures.
The milk is warming, the wind is blowing, Teah (our dog) is fast asleep and another day is over.
