History

In the winter of 1994, after witnessing the steady downward spiral of my daughter into the hell of drug addiction, I was given the gift of raising my miraculously, magickally healthy grand-daughter. I immediately asked my beloved aunt, Laura to move into our home. My aunt was a wonderful woman. She devoted her life to her family. Auntie Laura was, in many ways, my mom. She helped raise me and then helped me immensely in the raising of my two children after an abusive marriage. I have two adult children, my much-missed daughter, who is hopefully, in recovery and my beloved son, who is in the military. Brianna was twenty-six months old when Auntie moved in with us on Martin Luther Kings birthday in January of 1995. All was well. I was working, making decent money and able to spend lots of time with Auntie Laura and Brianna. The three of us were healing after the horror that we had been through. Auntie Laura and Brianna became so very close, they were always together! Auntie would sit for hours reading Doctor Seuss and other favorites. I'll never forget Brianna’s third birthday, it was a beautiful autumn day, Brianna & I were out doing chores.....suddenly, I felt an overwhelming urge to get back home. Auntie Laura was on the floor by the front door, her hands on the foot of her mom's marble top table. Auntie Laura was in a diabetic coma. We lost her a week later. The week after that, another aunt, Mamie, the matriarch of our family passed. That was two weeks before Christmas. I did what any half sane, traumatized, retired roadie, semi-sales person, sometime concert promoter with no money would do. I sold my car and jumped on a plane. Brianna and I went to Disney World for Christmas.

There are no accidents.

We had a wonderful time at Disney World. We were there for three nights/four days. It was well worth selling the car.

We returned to a very snowy southern New England. The morning after our return, I had a "eureka!" moment.
I'll get to that another time.

As many people do after Christmas, people were passing things on. Angell, a long time confidant bought herself a new computer, so we received her old one. Freddy the Caterer had four brand new American Indian southwestern/falsa blankets. He dropped those off with some of his 'greatest meatballs'. I had a toddler, a stroller, four blankets and a bunch of meatballs. We ate the meatballs and we wrapped those blankets in plastic, put them on the stroller and Brianna & I set out to sell those blankets. There was snow everywhere as we walked the mile or so to Simone's Service Station in Providence. Louie bought two blankets and a couple of the guys that hang there bought the other two. Brianna & I had $70.00. Did I mention that we were on welfare at that point? Well, it took us awhile, but we found out where those blankets came from and we saved a few cents here and there, sold a couple of things, and we raised the $200.00 necessary for a minimum order. Coyote's Corner was born.

That was 1997.

We had no car, no cash, no credit, no plan, no stock to speak of.

We had about 20 southwestern/falsa blankets and 6 diamond back blankets.

And it was Spring.

February, 2005

Brianna & I moved from Providence to East Providence six years ago. We're near Auntie Hilda, who is ninety-two and a true gift. We live a couple of streets away from "Main St", a stone's throw from the interstate. We run Coyote's Corner & Feminist-Tshirts. We started homeschooling a few years ago. I cannot recommend it enough! Brianna & I have a awesome relationship. She is a fabulous, wise beyond her years woman in training. Life is an exciting journey filled with adventure after adventure. We have an interesting menagerie - two parakeets, a dove, two rabbits and best of all, Teah - the wonder dog.

We are eight years into Coyote's Corner. We have a wonderful web designer, Sparky, a gentle man with an inate knowledge of computers, science and animals. We work with a couple of wonderful screen printers who have shared time, ideas & imagination with us. We often powwow, travel often and have wonderful, exciting adventures. Our next great adventure is about to happen. We can feel it.

March, 2007

There's a Nor Easter as I write this. To quote Jerry Garcia, "It's been a long strange trip." Brianna is working on one of her websites. I think it's our new one, Trashie Tees. We've had a rough two years...but it's had some shining, glourious moments.

Our original screenprinters became disfunctional. The male 'boss' of the company became more & more controlling. The real owner, his girlfriend became more & more emotionally & mentally abused. We, Coyote's Corner, didn't have the funds to switch to a new screenprinter. To make a long story short....Peter, the abuser, cost us thousands of dollars. The police were involved, who, by the way were very upset with my politics. The city prosecuter dragged us to court every two weeks. Brianna & I became so involved in legal issues, police harrassment, finding a new screenprinter and trying to just get on with our lives.

It's over now.

We lost my mom last year. She's in a much better place.

On the up side - my son, who is no longer in the military, is receiving his Masters degree in June. Brianna & I  hope to take a train out to Southern California to witness this.

My daughter is doing wonderful! She's working a program...and it looks as though she's making it. She's married to a fine young man and has three beautiful girls.

Brianna & I are designing new shirts, jeans, totes, skirts and dresses. Brianna has become a ardent, efficient animal advocate. She's on the board of C.A.T.S (Cat Adoption Team Services), located here in East Providence, RI.

She's planning an event for DDB (Dogs Deserve Better) on July 4th.

She's discovered a talent for tennis....she's really good at it!

She's doing all the modeling for our sites.

Brianna is a great young woman.

So..that's it. Stay posted!
