Wild Wilderness, which fights the commercialization of the control and management of public lands for profit by the corporate-political complex. Traditional uses of our public lands are being questioned (by the US Forest Service under Bush) as private industry assumes a greater role in their operation and management. In order to attract private investment, suitable economic returns must be assured. Unfortunately, there is little money to be made in allowing the public to enjoy raw nature as an amenity; "as something we Americans are privileged to enjoy." The potential commodity value of nature is simply far too great to be left untapped, and so the cost of recreational access to public lands will rise to whatever level the market will bear. In the eyes of the US Forest Service, wreckreation (recreation run as a revenue generator) is its new business. And we can be fairly confident that they will manage it, as they have managed every other extractive use on our public lands,(i.e. logging) for the benefit of corporations and to the detriment of the public and of the land itself.

Dear Military Families,
Several months ago we sent out an email informing Military Families Speak Out members about a new group that formed in July, 2004 called Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) and their website www.ivaw.net. This is a group of
men and women who served in the U.S. military since 1999 and who oppose the war in Iraq. Some of the co-founders of IVAW are the sons and daughters of MFSO members.
Since we sent out that first notice, many new military families have joined MFSO; and a number of MFSO member families have also had their loved ones who were deployed now return.
If you believe Iraq Veterans Against the War might be of interest to your loved one, please check out their website and pass along information about
the organization to them. Information for contacting IVAW is on their website.
In Peace and Solidarity,
